What to Wear

San Francisco's weather in September can be a bit of a paradox! It's typically the warmest month of the year, but ‘Karl the fog’ and cool ocean breezes can still make things unpredictable. Here's your guide to mastering the art of layering for your Rolex Big Boat Series adventure:

Daytime:

  • Base Layer: A breathable, moisture-wicking t-shirt or tank top is ideal for managing any unexpected warmth. Consider merino wool for its natural temperature regulation properties.
  • Mid-Layer: Pack a light sweater or long-sleeved shirt for when the fog rolls in or the ocean breeze picks up. A fleece jacket is another great option for added warmth.
  • Outer Layer: A windproof and water-resistant jacket is essential. San Francisco's unpredictable weather can mean sudden sunshine or a light drizzle. A packable jacket is a good space-saving option.
  • Bottoms: Opt for comfortable, breathable pants or jeans. Convertible pants that zip off into shorts give you more flexibility throughout the day.
  • Shoes: Comfortable walking shoes are a must for exploring the city and navigating the racecourse grounds. Consider waterproof shoes in case of rain.

Evening:

  • Dress in layers: Temperatures can drop significantly once the sun sets. Add a scarf or hat for extra warmth.

Tips

  • Pack sunglasses and sunscreen – even on cloudy days, the sun's rays can be strong.
  • A hat can protect you from the sun and provide extra warmth on cooler evenings.
  • Don't forget comfortable socks – you'll be doing a lot of walking!
  • Check the latest forecast before you arrive to make any final adjustments to your packing list.
  • Remember, San Francisco is a casual city. Avoid overly formal attire, even for fancy restaurants.
